Mars Lander site hacked.
by The Uni-Hacker on Jun.03, 2008, under Security
The Mars mission site was hacked twice late Friday night by members of a Turkish hacking gang. Visitors were redirected to another website which had the Turkish flag and pwnage messages. Soon after, another attack several hours later defaced a blog post on the site, the project took the site offline, said Hammond. “It was back up Saturday at 1:15 p.m. MDT,” she added. “This was the public site,” Hammond stressed. “None of the scientific data was ever at risk.”
The Phoenix Mars Mission Web site offers news, images and other information about the lander, which touched down just over a week ago. The mission is being co-managed by the University of Arizona and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
justanothermobilemonday.com hacked?
by The Uni-Hacker on May.22, 2008, under Security
It appears that justanothermobilemonday.com could have possibly been hacked. The front page seems to work just fine but none of their permalinks are working. The site is still down as of 08:44 Thursday. One of the authors says “I can’t give you any details/specifics of what happened at the moment, maybe a bit further down the line when we get out of counselling.”
My first glance at the sites tells me, “hey, this is a cool looking site”, but it also tells me “Hey, I bet they used lots of plugins that are probably in-secure and have lots of SQL injection opportunities”. Many times, a hacker will find a site that could possibly be using lots of wordpress plugins, then use the plugin to hack the site.
Muxtape hacked.
by The Uni-Hacker on May.22, 2008, under Security
Muxtape, a popular music upload service online, has reportedly been hacked today. Apparently all the songs have been replaced by “Aim (with Stephen Jones)”, and the originals are all gone. At first Muxtape said they thought it was a database error, however, others don’t think databases are the problem.
An update was just posted to the Muxtape blog. No details yet, but they know about the problem and have taken the site down temporarily to fix it.: “This afternoon, someone gained access to our server and caused some problems. We are investigating and will have more information soon. I’ve taken the site down temporarily as a precaution. Thanks for your understanding, watch this space for an update.”
Zimbabwe government paper hacked.
by Hax0r on May.12, 2008, under Security
The website www.herald.co.zw remained hacked from Saturday to Sunday evening for more than 24 hours after a hacker calling himself r4b00f, probably angry over its blatant bias, broke in and changed the wording on the home page to “Gukurahundi.”“Gukurahundi”(Shona: “the early rain which washes away the chaff before the spring rains”) was an ethnic cleansing operation started in October 1980 Robert Mugabe, then Prime Minister, signed an agreement with North Korean President Kim Il Sung to have the North Korean military train a brigade for the Zimbabwean army. by zimbabwemetro.com
The website was running IIS, Microsoft’s web hosting server package, known for getting hacked on a daily basis. Recently more than 500,000 IIS web servers were hacked by a Microsoft glitch. The hackers could have used this same SQL injection glitch but with so many problems with IIS it’s hard to tell which exploit was used.
