Joomla dot org hacked, Joomla 1.5 sites at risk.

All Joomla 1.5 websites are at serious risk in getting hacked. In only the last two days I’ve managed to find a handful of websites, including our own, that have been hack into and defaced. Now, come to find out, the official Joomla.org website has also been hacked. It appears that the Joomla API for building extensions and mods is not programmed correctly. There are two many ways mod and extensions builders can mess up, and not even know it. It appears though that the Joomla 1.5 core is really whats at risk, but is not known for sure.
The quick fix for this is to switch to WordPress, not to say that WordPress doesn’t have security issues, but it’s not as bad as Joomla.

It is unfortunate…. very .. but i guess it happens to the best of us. The official joomla announcement says its not a problem with the Core…. The site has been fixed.

Yeah, I switched back to wordpress because of all the problems. I looked up joomla at packetstorm and there are 100’s of extensions that are exploited. Good luck.

You may visit the website to see yourself, mine has been hacked too. It is even too early after launching the website. My password wasn’t easy to guess that you may say the hacker guessed the password.
Please let us know how safe is Joomla 1.5 CMS..!

I wouldn’t go jumping to conclusions and changing just yet. WordPress has had issues, SMF has had security issues as well as Drupal too.
It seems the cybercriminals are targeting CMS, blogs, forums and the like. Today (10/9/08) blogrolling.com was taken down.
The cybercriminals are extremely active.
